Here’s the technical aspect of ATLC…
The Aroostook Teen Leadership Camp (ATLC) program is a leadership development and drug prevention program focusing on Aroostook County students in grades 5-9. There are two program components: a five-day residential summer camp in late July, and a variety of follow-up programs and activities that are offered during the school year. The summer camp program provides leadership skills, drug awareness information, team-building, and coping skills development. The follow-up activities during the school year provide teens with the opportunity to continue developing and strengthening leadership skills while participating in a network of Aroostook County teens interested in living drug-free. Teens are encouraged to stay involved in the program for as long as they can/ want long after they have attended as campers. This program is open to ANY teen!
Mission: The Aroostook Teen Leadership Camp (ATLC) program develops teen drug prevention leaders having the necessary knowledge, skills, training, and support to effectively work with other teens during a residential summer camp program and in follow-up activities during the school year.
Vision: Aroostook County will be ranked as the lowest county in Maine for substance use among students in grades 5-9, as measured by Maine’s Youth Drug and Alcohol Use Survey (MYDAUS).
Core Beliefs: We believe that teens are effective substance abuse prevention leaders when given the necessary knowledge, tools, training, and support. We also believe teens listen and talk more to other teens than to adults.
to prevent or delay early use of alcohol and other illegal drugs by Aroostook County teens;
to increase favorable teen attitudes about not using alcohol and other illegal drugs;
to develop teen drug prevention leaders; and
to provide a teen support network for a drug-free lifestyle.
ATLC 2018 summer program will be taking place at the University of Maine at Fort Kent from July 22-26, 2018. This registration period is now closed.

City-Wide Yard Sale– On Saturday and Sunday, May 19th and 20th ATLC will be participating in the City Wide Yard Sale going on in Caribou. If you have any items you would like to get rid of, bring them to Amber at the Caribou office before May 10th. Please, no electronics as they are very expensive to discard (after years of not being sold in the sale). Thank you!
Former “Regional Weekend Program” Revamp
As we have mentioned before, we are looking to significantly update the old “Regional Weekend Program”. We do want to still work with teens currently in 5-8 and want to keep some of the same aspects of this program. However, we were looking to update the content being taught to fit teens of today.
If you are interested in being a part of this planning process, please contact us before April 12. We will have a meeting in Caribou on April 22.
We’ll be sending out the last camper survey this month. Please, look for this and be prepared to send it back immediately. ATLC is dependent on these surveys and it’s also something you signed and agreed to do before you attended camp last year so please don’t forget to send yours in!
Congratulations to Quinn White and Autumn Ganzel for being ATLC 2018’s Big Sisters!! We are confident in your ability to keep the energy upbeat at camp and your ability to handle obstacles that will come your way with the transition to a new camp site. Good luck with your new roles!!
Thursday’s on Sweden Street-
This outdoor event in Caribou (held about every other week during the summer) is so much FUN! The street gets shut down, lined with vendors, and filled with music from the band that plays each night. We will have a booth making fried pickles and poutines (hand cut fries with cheese and gravy). We use donated potatoes from local farmers. If anyone knows a farmer that would be willing to donate to a great cause, we’d REALLY appreciate it! We tend to go through about 70 lbs. of potatoes per event but we will take any amount donated. Please contact Amber with the information below.
Also, we will be looking for teen’s assistance to serve these items. The first one is coming up on June 7. The next and final newsletter will contain the dates this event will be held. Teens who have already been to summer camp are invited to come help. Don’t forget your time volunteering can go towards NHS and hours for graduation!
The Activities Committee will be coming up with more outings for ATLC teens throughout the school year. We try to have at least one outing in every region and try to keep the cost of the activity between$10 and $0. In order to hold an outing, we have at least 12 people signed up before the deadline or the outing will be cancelled. Even though an outing may not be in your area, we provide a list of who is attending after the deadline so that you can carpool.
The next outing will be the Corn Maze in September 2018. More information will be available as the event date gets closer.
Camp 2017 DVDs- These are ready to go!If you would like one, send your $15 into Amber and she’ll mail one out to you!
